To browse images, choose File > Open Folder.... In the file dialog that opens, select the top level folder that contains the images you wish to view. Click OK.
Spect will show images contained in this folder as thumbnails on the right side of its window. Sub-folders of this folder will be shown in the sidebar on the left side of the window.
By default, Spect only shows images that are in the top level folder you select. You can choose to include images from sub-folders by using the popup menu in the lower left on the window. You can include an unlimited depth of sub-folders of the current folder, or limit the scan to just 1 or 2 sub-folders deep.
This setting also applies if you select a sub-folder in the sidebar of Spect's window. In that case, the number of sub-folders included will be relative to the selected sub-folder.
Image file names are not shown by default. To show them, choose View > Show File Names. To hide them again, choose View > Hide File Names
The color of file name labels can be changed in preferences.
Choose Edit > Copy to copy the file names of the selected images to the clipboard.
Double click a sub-folder in the sidebar to make it the new top-level folder. Alternatively, you can choose File > Open Selected Folder
The popup menu located above the sidebar can be used to navigate back to previously open folders.
Choose File > Open Enclosing Folder to move up one level.
Because Spect is sandboxed for security, you cannot navigate to folders above the initial folder you selected; only sub-folders. To navigate to a higher level folder than where you started, choose File > Open Folder... again and select a new starting point.
The slider in the lower-right corner of the window can be used to change the size of image thumbnails. Move it to the right to make thumbnails larger. Move it to the left to make them smaller.
To view an image at full size, double click its thumbnail, or press the space bar or return key. To exit full size view, double click the image again, or click Back in the lower right. Pressing the space bar or Esc key will also exit full size view.
The back and forward arrows in the lower left of full size view allow you to step through sequential images without exiting full size view. You can also use the left and right arrow keys.
To enter Full Screen Mode, choose View > Enter Full Screen. In this mode, the sidebar and all other window bars are hidden, so you will see only your images.
To exit Full Screen Mode, move the mouse cursor to the very top of the screen until the menu bar reappears, then choose View > Exit Full Screen.
Choose View > Start Slideshow or View > Start Shuffled Slideshow to begin viewing the current set of images as a slideshow in sequential or random order.
Starting a slideshow automatically enters full size view.
Slideshows automatically loop back to the first image when they reach the end.
Choose View > Stop Slideshow to stop the slideshow.
To select an image, click its thumbnail once.
Add additional images to the selection by holding down the shift key while clicking on them. Do the same to remove selected items from the selection.
Click and drag anywhere outside of an image thumbnail to perform a marquee selection of multiple images at once. Holding down the shift key while performing a marquee selection adds new items to the selection, while removing any already selected items.
Choose Edit > Select All to select all images currently being shown. Choode Edit > Deselect All to clear the current selection.
Choose File > Reveal in Finder to reveal selected images in-place in Finder.
Choose File > Move to Trash to move the selected images to the Trash.
If the images are stored on a volume that does not support Trash (such as some network drives) you will be prompted to confirm immediate deletion instead.
You can drag image files out of Spect to another application, such as Finder. Dragged files will be copied.
You can also drag image files into Spect from another application. Files dropped into Spect will be placed in the folder currently selected in the sidebar, or the top-level folder if no folder is selected in the sidebar. Files will be copied to the destination.
Select Spect > Preferences... to open the preferences window.
