WordNewt is a lexical database for English language. It's free! If you
want to support further development of WordNewt, please push Apple Computer
to revive Newton Technology.
You may have a lot of creative ways to do so, but I would like to provide a humble
suggestion:

Newton Forever!
WordNewt is developed on a MessagePad 2100. I guess you will need a MessagePad 2000 or MessagePad 2100 to use WordNewt. Besides, WordNewt is *HUGE*! You need about 8M free storage memory to store all the three packages of WordNewt. I assume that you know how to install packages to your Newton device. I also assume that you know how to download files from Internet and to have them unstuffed.
Please...not so hurry...read on. ^_^
Use your favorite package downloading utility to download the three packages of WordNewt to your Newton device. The three packages are:
- WordNewtData.pkg occupies 4709K on my MessagePad 2100; this package contains lexical database of English language.
- WordNewtIndex.pkg occupies 3129K on my MessagePad 2100; this package contains database lookup methods which are used internally in WordNewt.
- WordNewt.pkg occupies 18K on my MessagePad 2100; this package contains user-interface of WordNewt.
If you want your WordNewt to "speak", you need "MacinTalk" package.
After successful installation of the packages, you will see 3 (or 4 if you install MacinTalk) packages in your Extras drawer. The one with this icon is the starting point of using WordNewt. Tap this icon in your Extras drawer.
At first, WordNewt takes up all your screen estate, which looks like this:
Tapping will lookup selected text or text in the lookup filed. If WordNewt cannot find the word, WordNewt will try to present you some suggestion.
Tapping will speak selected text or text in the lookup filed.
Tapping will zoom out WordNewt, making it smaller on the screen.
Zoomed out WordNewt is very useful. Select a word and tap , WordNewt will zoom in and lookup the word for you. Select a portion of text and tap , WordNewt will speak the selected text to you. Tap will zoom in WordNewt.
Prefs
Prefs allows you to configure how WordNewt speaks. Tap the "i" button at the lower-left corner, then tap Prefs, you will see a view like this:
Q1. Why do you write WordNewt?
A1. I am a unsatisfied user of Lextionary. This is the primary driving force.
Q2. Where can I get "MacinTalk"?A2. I recall that Planet Newton has one.
Q3. Will WordNewt become smaller in the future?A3. Yes. Making WordNewt smaller would be my first mission in push WordNewt further.
