Subject: New newton software From: "Pernicano, Kevin M Mr VA" Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2003 16:56:18 -0400 To: "'victor@newtontalk.net'" CC: "'iqtest@bellsouth.net'" Dear Victor, This is the chain of emails verifying that Dr. Knowlton is releasing his SOS software for the Newton 2000/2100 and documentation to be placed on http://www.unna.org servers. I have appended the software to this document. There are three .pkg, one is the software itself (SOS (Pavlov).pkg, one is Dr. Knowlton's research project (SOS Thesis), and one is some additional instruction for installation and use (SOS Specification). These softwares can be classified in the UNNA archives under applications, within an SOS Pavlov Folder, if desired. If you want to list me as the contact person for anyone with questions about the software, you can list my email address as . Please do NOT list my military email address from which I am sending this post as my contact address on UNNA. I am a also member of the newtontalk.net list as well, so members can reach me there. Statement of Release: Dr. Knowlton or I accept responsibility for the use or verification of this software, and cannot endorse its use, except that it is presented to the public as explicitly written without modification. Based on Dr. Knowlton's written permission, this software is released to UNNA for the use of the general public without warranty. It is a very interesting and useful tool for school behavioral specialists who want to make observations of student behaviors in the classroom. It is released to UNNA ( http://www.unna.org ) and Victor Rehorst for use by the general Newton user community without expectation of monetary or other compensation. Kevin M. Pernicano, Ph.D., ABPP Licensed Psychologist, Diplomate in Counseling Psychology ====Correspondence & actions================================= DATE: Tue, 08 Apr 2003 06:48:21 From: Victor Rehorst To: nosmo.king123@eudoramail.com Dr. Pernicano wrote: There is a piece of software that was developed by a psychologist in Washington State. He and I have been in correspondence, and he is willing to release it to UNNA along with the documentation. It is a psychological assessment tool for school psychologists. It does not contain any information that might be used in any damaging way by any non-psychologists, and might be of use to mental health/school people in the world of Newtons. I have secured permission from the creator to forward this on but wanted to check with you before doing so since I am not the actual owner of the software. The owner has already written to me stating that he is in favor of this, and does not seek to earn any profit from his work or the distribution. Let me know if anything else is needed before I send on the package! Your reply: If you can include this authorization in some way (copy of e-mail from developer, or a transcript of the letter) along with the software then it'll be fine. -- Victor Rehorst - victor@newtontalk.net - chuma@chuma.org NewtonTalk list administrator - http://www.newtontalk.net =========================================================== ====First action=============================== On Wed, 15 Jan 2003 18:14:15 Thaynan Knowlton wrote: Hello, Is this the address where I can send some PDA observation software? Are you the psychologist that phoned me a couple of weeks ago? I found part of the program and would be happy to send it over if this is the correct address. Thank you. Thaynan Knowlton ====Second action============================= Dr. Pernicano mailed Dr. Knowlton by USPS a blank disc and a request for a hard copy of his SOS software to Goldendale School District, 603 S. Roosevelt St.m, Goldendale, WA 98620. His reply follows. ====Third Action================================ DATE: Sat, 15 Mar 2003 20:24:19 From: Thaynan Knowlton To: Dr. Pernicano, You have been so patient and persistent. I see now how you made it through your doctoral program. I'm sure you were one of the top in your cohort. I received the box a few days ago that you sent for me to put the program, on. Thank you. I have included in this email the .pkg and the specifications for how the program was to be finished. As you will soon discover, it was not completed. I had it working well enough to use in my research project, but after I graduated, my programmer decided he wanted to work on other projects. Please feel free to use this program any way you desire. It was never copyrighted, to my knowledge, and therefore could be yours if you wish. I don't have the means nor the time to finish the project. Just let me know. ====Fourth action============================== From: "Dr. Pernicano" Organization: Lycos Mail (http://www.mail.eudoramail.com) Reply-To: nosmo.king123@eudoramail.com Date: Thu, 20 Mar 2003 20:40:22 -0500 To: thaynank@gorge.net Subject: Re: Newton Software Thanks for your response! I have downloaded it and will give it some use here. I am honored that you might consider passing on the "rights" to your work, but I have a suggestion. There is a huge Newton community out there and there is a website, www.unna.org, which is a repository for all the Newton software available, except those things the commercial developers do not want to release to public domain. If you are agreeable, I would like to forward this to them so that any others who want to use your work could do so, and you would receive some credit in name for your efforts. I do not believe there is any money involved, for me or for you, but you would receive some fame (hopefully not notoriety!). I will explore what paperwork is needed to allow the UNNA to post your package. I would recommend that you also release your paper to them, along with the instructions, so users can know what to do with it. I will await your response. -kp ====Fifth action================================================= DATE: Mon, 07 Apr 2003 19:56:58 From: Thaynan Knowlton To: That sounds fine.
