nZone - the Newton Tank Battle Simulator. Copyright 1998 Lee Moon. All Rights Reserved. -----3/12/98------------------------------------- nZone is a real-time, vector graphics, 3D tank battle simulator for use on Newton MessagePad 2000/2100s. It is loosely based on the original "Battlezone" video arcade game from Atari. nZone Release Notes: This is my experimental prototype version. As such, it is only a glimpse at what the finished version MAY look like. The current version of nZone is quite limited. You can drive around the battlefield and run into the cubes scattered about (if you want), you can shoot at things, you can find the enemy tank (it doesn't move yet). The radar will help in locating the enemy tank (the enemy is a "wedge" shaped object and the targeting crosshairs will indicate when the enemy tank is in your turrets line of sight). nZone Instructions: 1) Download the nZone.pkg file to your Mac or PC. 2) Install nZone.pkg on your Newton 2000/2100. 3) Open Extras and tap on the nZone icon to start nZone. 4) Tap the "Start" button to begin the simulation. 5) The arrow buttons will move the tank as follows: Up - move forward, Down - move backward, Left - rotate counter-clockwise, Right - rotate clockwise, Diagonal Up/Right - move forward and right (right turn), Diagonal Down/Right - move backward and right (reverse right turn), Diagonal Up/Left - move forward and left (left turn), Diagonal Down/Left - move backward and left (reverse left turn), Center - stop all motion. 6) The "Fire" button will launch your missle. You cannot fire again until the missile impacts something or flies out of range. 7) Colliding with an object will cause the tank to "bounce off" the object and stop. 8) Press the "Start" button to restart a game. 9) Press the "Light" button to turn on/off the backlighting. 10) Press the "Settings" button to play in normal graphics or in a test mode with distance shading on the objects. 11) Press the "i" button to display nZone program information. 12) There's a hidden sound (well, not now since I'm telling you about it.) Tap on the "BattleNewt" text below the arrow buttons. It will play a sound which I was considering for use in the game (for the radar display probably). 13) Tap the close box to quit nZone. 14) Have fun and remember: nZone is only my first pass at this game! Thank you for trying out nZone! I'd like to thank all of those who have sent email in the past few years in support of my Newton development efforts. :-) Lee LeeMoon@aol.com http://members.aol.com/LeeMoon/
